My best lesson to you is
that there is always something more to learn.
I've been
giving steel guitar lessons for 40+ years, but I also teach
dobro, acoustic, electric and bass guitar. You will learn
your instrument, not just licks or songs. This has been very
successful both for those who want to entertain themselves and
those who want to be on the bandstand.
Working with me is Billy Paris, who
specializes in guitar, bass, 5-string banjo, fiddle, and mandolin.
Billy is an excellent teacher and a real pro who has been on
bandstands and in recording studios for over 40 years. His
technique is special, and he is willing to share all of his
knowledge with you.
I start with the basics, but not with
a bunch of boring exercises. You will be playing real songs from
the beginning and will learn a basic version of a
number songs. As we go, we will then enhance
the earlier versions and fancy them up. Along the way, we will
add your requests. Each lesson is tape recorded so that you
have something to take with you to refresh your memory between
lessons.
Many players may be able to play a couple
of dozen songs very well, but if asked to play something special,
or even something they know but in a different key, they won't
be able to do it. This is a real problem if you want to "sit
in" with a group or invite a singer to join your group on the
bandstand. With my "know your instrument" goal, you'll be
able to play any song in any key.
A regular weekly lesson is 1/2 hour,
but I can make special arrangements. My students come from
far and wide. I have students from more than 70 miles away who
come in twice a month for an hour. I also have a
student in Washington State and another in Phoenix, Arizona.
When in the area, they come in for an hour or two and go home with
lots of new stuff to work on. Contact me for the best in music
instruction!
